Purpose of Role:
- To ensure smooth delivery of a risk-based Internal Audit programme.
- They will drive the development and updating of this flexible plan to ensure
- it remains focussed on key strategic risks, reflects other assurance providers and contributes to improving Harbour Energy’s internal control environment
- Oversight, support and direction of resources employed for this purpose.
- This will include building and maintaining an in-house internal audit methodology and capability alongside directing the necessary co-source capability
- Work with SVP IA as they support the Board to fulfil its legal duties in line with the requirements of the UK Corporate Governance Code
Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES*):
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures
- Work closely with HSEQ to ensure all risks associated with MAE/MATTE are effectively identified and associated controls are regularly tested
Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:
Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:
Vision: Take ownership for implementation of specific elements of the 3 year strategy for IA across Harbour Energy, in line with IIA guidelines, which will support our wider risk and controls journey, to include how we will optimally deploy both human and technology resources
People: Contribute to the ongoing development of a core IA capability through recruitment / coaching (both in-house and co-source staff) and application of external best practice to shape audit activities
Stakeholders: Coordinate team-wide efforts to identify key stakeholders across the business and build effective relationships to enable open and constructive discussions, which will help facilitate the delivery of agreed audits and improve our risk and control environment
Risk driven: Contribute to, and lead elements of, Internal Audit’s 6 monthly planning process to develop an audit plan which is responsive to, and aligned with, the risk profile of the company and takes account of other assurance providers (eg Finance, HSEQ, IS, Compliance) so assurance is demonstrably complete but not duplicative. Pro-actively inform management of risks or exposures related to internal controls, compliance and governance issues requiring prompt action
Delivery: Oversee efficient delivery of the approved audit plan to a high quality and in a timely manner, complying with external regularity requirements and managing appropriate QA processes. Coordinate the process to track, follow-up, report and ultimately support management to close all audit issues effectively
Change: Lead Internal Audit’s participation in critical business and technology initiatives and projects, to facilitate management in designing and implementing effective controls. Participate in internal control assessments
of acquired companies and work with management to agree efforts to mitigate identified control deficiencies
Board & Audit Cttee: Prepare and deliver updates for senior management and the Board to clearly articulate the IA work undertaken, control deficiencies identified, management’s actions and the resultant efficacy of the risk management and internal control environment.
Critical Skills*, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:
- University degree educated. Accounting qualification – ACA, CIMA, ACCA
- Oil and gas or extractive industries experience preferred
- Demonstrated expertise of all aspects of internal controls and UK corporate governance
- Proven track record of leading a team of IA professionals, resulting in an enhanced control environment across key financial risk areas.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop & maintain strong mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders spanning finance, operations and other support functions
- Ability to robustly challenge the business and influence key individuals whilst maintaining an effective working relationship
- Able to operate autonomously, with excellent organisational skills and a strong focus on leadership and delivery. Good people management skills with the ability to manage, mentor and develop both Harbour energy staff and third-party resources.
