Purpose of Role:    
The Subsurface & Data Solutions Architect at Harbour Energy is a strategic role within the Subsurface and Data Product team, focused on supporting the development and alignment of subsurface applications and data solutions. 


Key purpose:

  • Proactively support the development of Harbour Energy’s Subsurface and Data Product portfolio, including projects, systems (applications, data, technologies, processes, and information), and shared infrastructure.
  • Focus exclusively on Subsurface Applications and Data, collaborating closely with the Subsurface & Data Product Manager across the Subsurface & Data Product Portfolio.
  • Work with the Subsurface & Data Product Manager and the business to understand business goals, objectives, outcomes, capabilities, value-streams, and processes to provide, analysis, and design tasks for developing technology solutions that meet business needs and align with architectural governance and standards.
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture for functional guidance and architectural direction.
  • Active participation in the architecture cross domain forum to ensure alignment with architectural governance, standards and practices.

  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures


Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required


Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to engage business stakeholders and align delivery outcomes with strategic roadmaps and to understand their requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Document business capabilities, practices, and processes using agreed tools for business change modelling.
  • Create deliverables for managing the organization's Subsurface Products Portfolio of “to be” and “as is” applications and data solutions
  • Provide technical expertise for Subsurface and Data architecture and design.
  • Work with peer solution architects to ensure alignment with platform roadmaps.
  • Stay informed about emerging technology trends and apply them to support evolving business models.
  • Evaluate opportunities and develop business cases for new initiatives.
  • Evaluation of existing and new products and recommendation improvements or selection of new software product standards and services.
  • Develop solutions to innovate and enhance the Subsurface and Data Product portfolio.
  • Adhere to enterprise architecture principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into architectural blueprints that support business objectives.
  • Work closely with the Product Manager to develop a roadmap for the evolution of the Product line portfolio.
  • Foster relationships with industry peers and key partners to stay informed about strategies and trends.
  • Develop and integrate IT solutions tailored for subsurface data management, ensuring they meet the company’s technical and business needs.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate potential issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the architecture, design processes, and any changes made to the systems.


Critical Skills:    

  • Proven experience in subsurface domain, with a focus on aligning IT strategy with business goals.
  • Strong industry and domain-specific knowledge relating to Subsurface and Exploration applications, data and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of business processes, IS infrastructure, and software development lifecycles.
  • Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business strategy and priorities.
  • Experience in the development and use of solution architecture frameworks, patterns, and best practices to drive business transformation.
  • Proven experience in subsurface data management and architectural design.
  • Strong knowledge of geological and geophysical data interpretation and integration.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations regarding subsurface data.
  • Experience in modelling and analyzing complex systems and processes using various frameworks with a preference towards TOGAF.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
