Senior Geo-modelling Geologist - Kan
Mexico, MX
Since its creation in 2014, Harbour has grown to become one of the world’s largest and most geographically diverse independent oil and gas companies. Today, Harbour is producing between 475,000 and 485,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day with significant production in Norway, the UK, Germany, Argentina and North Africa. Harbour benefits from competitive operating costs and resilient margins, and a broad set of growth options including near-infrastructure opportunities in Norway, unconventional scalable opportunities in Argentina and conventional offshore projects in Mexico and Indonesia. With low GHG emissions intensity and a leading CO2 storage position in Europe, Harbour remains committed to producing oil and gas safely and responsibly to help meet the world’s energy needs. Harbour is headquartered in London with approximately 5,000 staff and contractors across its operations and offices.
Ours is an inclusive workplace where individuals can bring their whole selves to their job and feel recognised for the value they add. We are committed to creating a genuinely inclusive and supportive working environment to ensure everyone has a positive experience at work.
At Harbour Energy, we aim to recruit, retain and promote our people based on their unique skills, regardless of race, gender or background. We need excellent people to help shape and develop the future of our company. Could this be you?
If so, we want to hear from you.
Purpose of Role:
· Deliver high-precision geological modelling to enhance exploration and development projects within the Exploration & Subsurface department. Utilise advanced geo-modelling techniques to accurately predict subsurface characteristics and aid in efficient resource extraction.
· Interface with multidisciplinary teams including geophysicists and drilling engineers to integrate geological models with seismic data and drilling operations. This collaboration is essential for optimising well placement and maximising hydrocarbon recovery.
· Contribute to strategic departmental objectives by developing models that support the identification of new reservoirs and the expansion of existing ones. Ensure that all modelling activities align with the company's broader exploration goals and compliance requirements.
Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES):
· Ensure all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures.
Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:
· Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:
Geological Modelling
· Develop and interpret geological cross-sections, structural and facies maps, and other geological
· Representations, including 3D structural models.
· Integrate geophysical data, such as attribute maps, frequency decomposition, and iso-proportional slicing—to evaluate well opportunities.
· Generate property maps to assess reservoir heterogeneity and support the creation of iso-property maps.
· Build static models (3D geological models) to support well placement decisions and numerical reservoir simulations.
· Review and oversee the development of 3D geological models for development and appraisal wells.
· Participate in planning and monitoring of subsurface support activities executed by HQ subsurface services or external contractors.
· Analyze and correlate geological and geophysical data from development and appraisal wells, including well logs.
· Evaluate delineated areas for hydrocarbon potential and support volumetric estimations (STOIIP and GIIP).
Technical Collaboration
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate geological models with other subsurface data.
· Support project teams by providing geologically sound advice and model interpretations.
· Participate in technical reviews and workshops to align geological modelling practices with industry standards.
Data Management and Integrity
· Manage and maintain geological databases, ensuring high standards of data quality and accessibility for ongoing and future projects.
· Monitor and interpret dynamic data from drilling operations to update geological models and forecasts.
· Provide technical support for regulatory documentation and submissions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.
Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc. :
Technical Skills:
· 12+ years of relevant experience in geological modeling and reservoir characterization
· Proficient in the use of advanced geological modelling software such as Petrel, JewelSuite and Skua.
· Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology as it applies to hydrocarbon systems.
· Ability to integrate diverse data types (seismic, well logs, production data) to improve model accuracy.
Non-Technical Skills:
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively handle complex geological data.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
· Proven ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks to meet project deadlines.
Professional Experience:
· Extensive experience in subsurface geological modelling in the oil and gas industry.
· Skilled in the application of geostatistical methods to characterise reservoir properties.
· Experience working in a collaborative environment, contributing to multi-disciplinary project teams.
Education:
· Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
· Master's degree in Geology, Geosciences, or related discipline preferred.
Language:
· English: Proficient (written and spoken).
· Spanish: Intermediate or above.
Harbour Principles and Values:
· Strong alignment with and commitment to the core values and behaviours of Harbour Energy.
