Purpose of Role:
•    To provide professional, timely, cost-effective and practical legal advice and support Zama project in its day-to-day legal affairs.
•    To work as part of a team giving direct support to the Head of Legal of Mexico Business Unit in the management and oversight of the legal and commercial activities of the Zama project.
•    The position is a first step into a management role to enable the development of leadership skills.

 

Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES):

•    Ensure that all activities are executed safely and responsibly, in full compliance with applicable regulations and the company’s HSES standards, preventing Major Accident Events (MAE) and Major Accidents to the Environment (MATTE).

 

Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:

•    Act in full alignment with the company’s Ethics and Compliance framework and complete all required compliance training.

•    Promote integrity and transparency in contract negotiations and execution.
•    Supervise adherence to anti-corruption policies and conflict-of-interest prevention.

 

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

•    Work together with a team of legal professionals appropriately and effectively provide advice and encouragement to help them attain excellent results for the business and themselves.

•    A high degree of accountability, tact and diplomacy with strong collaboration skills internally and externally, as well as a highly visible and accessible style with a “can-do” attitude, focused on looking for solutions

•    Proactively contribute to the delivery of the scorecard, ensuring legal risks and commercial opportunities are managed appropriately.

•    Provide pragmatic and practical advice and guidance to the Zama project on all legal matters.

•    Contribute to and lead the assessments of risk on significant commercial opportunities, business decisions and HSES.

•    Effectively communicate all relevant legal policies, processes and procedures within the Zama project.

•    Effectively draft, negotiate and review a wide variety of commercial and Supply Chain agreements and proactively handle various matters through to resolution.

•    Manage external legal advisers within budget and at the required quality.

•    Ability to manage, implement and respond positively to change in an adaptive, innovative and flexible manner and in clear consultation with others.

•    Work together with a team of legal professionals appropriately and effectively provide advice and encouragement to help them attain excellent results for the business and themselves.

Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc. :

Technical Skills
•    Deep knowledge of Mexican energy law, hydrocarbons regulation, and E&P contractual frameworks.  
•    Expertise in corporate and commercial laws, joint ventures, and governance structures.  
•    Strong competence in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex legal matters.  
•    Litigation management and dispute resolution, including coordination with external counsel.  

Non-Technical Skills
•    Strategic thinking and ability to align legal advice with business objectives.  
•    Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.  
•    High ethical standards, integrity, and sound judgment under pressure.
Professional Experience
•    Minimum 7–10 years of legal experience, ideally within the energy sector or related industries.  
•    Prior collaboration with multidisciplinary project groups.  

Education 
•    Law degree (LLB or equivalent); qualified in Mexico (preferred).
•    Postgraduate specialization in corporate law, energy law, or international business law preferred.  

Languages
•    Fluent in Spanish (native or near-native level).  
•    Proficiency in English (business and legal drafting level required).
