Purpose of Role:

  • Provide technical expertise in drilling and completion fluids, cementing design and operations for the Kan Development Project.
  • Support the Drilling & Completion Team in planning, design, and execution of wells.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality drilling and completion fluid and cementing programs and operations in alignment with project objectives, HSES standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying lessons learned, innovative technologies, and industry best practices in drilling and completion fluid and cementing management.
  • Collaborate closely with drilling, completion, subsurface, operations, facilities, HSES, and procurement teams to optimize well delivery.
  • Ensure the safe planning and execution of drilling and completion operations by embedding company`s, regulatory and international HSES principles into all aspects of fluids and cementing design, planning, and operational activities, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to protect personnel, assets, and the environment.

 

Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES*):

  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures.

 

Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.

 

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

  • Develop, review, and validate drilling and completion fluid programs and laboratory testing, including fluid system design, chemical formulation, solid content and control, additive selection and chemical specifications.
  • Develop, review, and validate cementing programs and laboratory testing for all wells, including casing, liners, and plugs cement jobs to ensure zonal isolation and well integrity.
  • Monitor and evaluate real-time drilling and completion fluid performance during operations, including mud properties, hole cleaning, and fluid loss control.
  • Supervise, lead and provide technical guidance during cementing operations, ensuring correct job execution, placement verification, and zonal isolation.
  • Lead the troubleshooting of drilling fluid and cementing challenges in real time and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct risk assessments for fluid and cementing operations and propose mitigation measures to meet HSES and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate drilling and completion fluids, cement systems, additives, and service providers.
  • Collaborate with drilling and completion engineers to ensure fluids and cement programs are integrated into overall well designs and operational plans.
  • Participate in QA/QC of service providers’ fluids, cementing equipment, and operational deliverables.
  • Support procurement and contracting processes by providing technical input for fluid and cementing tenders and contractor selection.
  • Contribute to the Management of Change (MoC) process related to fluid, cementing and completion and drilling activities.
  • Ensure that all drilling and completion fluid and cementing activities comply with all company standards, regulatory requirements, and HSES policies.
  • Capture and document lessons learned and best practices to continuously improve fluid and cementing performance.
  • Support the continuous development of the BU Mexico Wells department and maintain interaction with HQ.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers or field personnel in fluids and cementing practices, promoting knowledge transfer and team capability building.

 

Critical Skills*, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:

Education (Required Educational Level)

  • B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Well Control Level 4 certificate.

 

Professional Experience (Required experience in a clearly definable field of activity and total years)

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant drilling, completion fluids and cementing experience, gained with operators and service companies.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and executing drilling and completion fluids, cementing programs and operations.
  • Proven ability to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective well delivery.
  • Familiar with offshore drilling operations, shallow and deepwater environment, and Mexican regulatory requirements.

 

Technical Skills (Special Technical knowledge: As: Software. Law knowledge, standards knowledge, etc.)

  • Strong knowledge of drilling and completion fluid systems, cementing techniques, and well integrity requirements.
  • Experience with fluid, cementing and hydraulic simulation and design software (e.g., WellPlan).
  • Solid understanding of well construction, drilling operations, HSE, and operational performance monitoring.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and international best practices.

 

 

Non-Technical Skills (It refers to soft skills: i.e. leadership, management skills, negotiation, communication, etc.)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and proactive mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and coordinate with drilling and completion engineers.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic project environment
  • Proficient in English (written & spoken)
  • Proficient in Spanish (written & spoken) is an advantage
