Purpose of Role:
- The Environment and Sustainability Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, driving sustainability initiatives, managing carbon reduction strategies, and aligning operations with corporate social responsibility goals. This role acts as the bridge between regulatory requirements, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability targets.
Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES*):
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures.
Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:
- Develop and implement environmental and sustainability policies and strategies.
- Accountable for socio-environmental baseline, impact assessment and management programmes
- Monitor, report and ensure adherence to environmental laws, permits, and industry standards.
- Track emissions, waste, water usage, and energy consumption, reporting to internal and external stakeholders Develop and implement BUMX sustainability programs in alignment with corporate frameworks, including carbon reduction and net-zero commitments.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives.
- Accountable for BUMX ESG metrics, databases and ESG assurance data.
- Identify environmental risks in exploration, drilling, and production, and propose mitigation measures.
- Identify opportunities for resource conservation and efficiency improvements
- Ensure the implementation of proper environmental management plans, waste reduction and recycling programs within the BUMX scope of operations as applicable.
- Communicate sustainability performance to employees, regulators and other stakeholders as required.
- Identify, develop and prepare sustainability and environment reports, ESG disclosures, and responses to internal and external stakeholders.
- Recommend operational changes to minimize environmental impact and improve efficiency
- Engage with regulators, communities, NGOs, to promote transparency and trust
- Conduct environmental, ESG and CSR audits and assessments as needed.
- Assisting in the initiation of HSES training needs analysis and coordination of implementation as needed.
- Leads the selection, preparation and coordination of Environment and Sustainability awareness programmes/campaigns for BUMX.
- Other duties associated with the HSES function, as directed by Supervisor.
Critical Skills*, Qualifications, Experience:
- Candidates should hold a university degree in a science-related field, such as Environmental Science, Environment & Sustainability, Engineering or related field.
- Master’s degree or professional relevant licenses and certifications specifically associated with environmental, CSR, ESG management are desirable.
- Native level or Proficient in Spanish (Minimum)
- Advanced level of English (oral and written) (Minimum)
- Minimum of ten or more (10+) years' experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least five (5) of these years spent in similar environmental or sustainability roles.
- Experience in leading the delivery of certification to ISO standards, such as ISO 14001:2015.
- Extensive experience in environmental & sustainability auditing.
- Comfortable reviewing and interpreting complex national and international regulations and laws and voluntary applicable frameworks.
- Proficiency in the valuation of environmental and sustainability projects Proficient in audit planning and execution.
- In depth knowledge of CSR & ESG principals.
- Proficiency in data analysis and sustainability metrics.
- Good time management skills and prioritization.
- Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate in an agile environment, working in cross-functional and multicultural teams.
- Strong Conflict Resolution skills.
- Comfortable reviewing and interpreting complex regulations and laws.
