Purpose of Role:
- Support the Drilling & Completion Team Lead and Senior Drilling Engineer in the planning, design, and execution of the development wells for the Kan Development Project.
- Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality drilling operations in line with project objectives, standards, and schedules.
- Provide technical input to well design, cost estimation, and operational execution planning.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including subsurface, operations, facilities, and HSES, to ensure integrated well delivery.
- Contribute to capturing lessons learned and applying best practices to optimize drilling performance.
- Support the safe planning and execution of drilling operations by applying company, regulatory, and international HSES standards in all aspects of well design, planning, and operational activities, while proactively identifying and mitigating risks to protect personnel, assets, and the environment.
Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES*):
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures.
Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:
- Support the preparation and validation of well designs, including well trajectories, casing programs, mud and hydraulics design, and other technical specifications. Additionally, contribute to the development of detailed drilling programs, operational execution plans, drilling guidelines, and accurate cost estimates, ensuring alignment with project objectives, safety standards, and best engineering practices
- Apply technical knowledge to optimize well design and execution, addressing drilling challenges proactively.
- Monitor drilling operations, identify issues and improvement opportunities, and provide technical support to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
- Assist in the selection and evaluation of drilling equipment, tools, and service providers.
- Conduct risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies for operational and HSE risks.
- Support well control planning, emergency response planning, and contingency measures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by capturing lessons learned and sharing best practices
- Maintain accurate well documentation, including daily drilling reports, end of well reports, well section reviews, amongst other technical reports.
- Contribute to well optimization studies, including drilling efficiency, cost reduction, and risk mitigation.
- Support implementation of new technologies or processes to enhance drilling performance.
- Participate in vendor and contractor technical meetings, follow-ups, and performance reviews.
- Participate in internal and HQ reporting requirements, ensuring technical information is accurate and timely captured.
- Ensure that all drilling activities comply with all company standards, regulatory requirements, and HSES policies.
- Support QA/QC of service providers’ equipment, services, and operational deliverables.
- Collaborate with procurement and contract teams for technical evaluations and contractor management.
- Participate in the Management of Change (MoC) process for drilling activities.
- Share knowledge with team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Support the continuous improvement of drilling practices within the BU Mexico Wells department and maintain interaction with HQ.
- Collaborate with the team to mentor or guide less experienced engineers and field personnel.
Critical Skills*, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:
Education (Required Educational Level)
- B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent.
- Well Control Level 4 certificate.
Professional Experience (Required experience in a clearly definable field of activity and total years)
- Minimum 7 years of relevant drilling experience gained with operators.
- Experience in planning and executing offshore drilling operations in shallow and deepwater environments.
- Familiar with Mexican offshore regulatory requirements.
- Experience in exploration, appraisal, and development wells.
- Demonstrated ability to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective well delivery
Technical Skills (Special Technical knowledge: As: Software. Law knowledge, standards knowledge, etc.)
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
- Experience with well planning software (e.g., WELLPLAN, WELLCAT, STRESSCHECK, COMPASS).
- Understanding of well construction, HSE, field operations, and commercial aspects.
- Ability to analyse technical data and provide practical solutions
Non-Technical Skills (It refers to soft skills: i.e. leadership, management skills, negotiation, communication, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
