Purpose of Role:
- Build the company’s resilience to risk and ability to seize opportunities to underpin the growth of Harbour Energy from a regional business to a successful global FTSE100 company.
- Promote a culture of informed risk management throughout the business that will help the company outperform in times of uncertainty and change.
Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES*):
Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures
Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:
Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:
- Design, implement and manage a scalable Enterprise Risk Management (‘ERM’) process tailored to the needs of the business and the Board.
- Build relationships with senior stakeholders across the business, including country and corporate leaders and local risk coordinators.
- Organise and lead key risk reviews and oversee business risk reporting to ensure risks and opportunities are systematically identified, assessed, and communicated.
- Develop and implement a methodology to use qualitative and quantifiable risk to inform planning and other key financial decision making.
- Provide expert advice to managers on the use of risk assessment and quantification techniques to inform the management of risk and pursuit of opportunities.
- Coordinate with the company’s control owners and assurance providers to ensure the ERM process contributes to the ongoing improvement of the company’s risk-based control environment and assurance model.
- Support and mentor local risk coordinators to embed the ERM framework locally and to bring risk management closer to the business.
- Configure, implement and maintain a suitable ERM tool to facilitate the ERM process.
- Make presentations to senior management and the Board on relevant ERM activities and outcomes.
Critical Skills*, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:
- Demonstrable passion for the concepts of risk and uncertainty and how the effective management of risk can help a business outperform in times of uncertainty and change.
- Knowledge and interest in risk assessment and quantification techniques including the potential for emerging technologies such as AI to improve our understanding and management of risk and ability to handle intrinsic biases.
- Experience designing, implementing and managing effective risk management systems and processes, including ERM or GRC tools.
- Excellent process management skills with the ability to think strategically, structure and deliver tasks, and bring an investigative instinct.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an aptitude to build relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders from technical professionals to business leaders in a multi-cultural environment
- Awareness of UK Corporate Governance Code requirements related to risk management.
- Active network of industry peers as a source of inspiration and good practices.
